“On February 26, our son Trayvon Martin was shot and killed as he walked to a family member’s home from a convenience store where he had just bought some candy. He was only 17 years-old.
Trayvon’s killer, George Zimmerman, admitted to police that he shot Trayvon in the chest. Zimmerman, the community’s self appointed “neighborhood watch leader,” called the police to report a suspicious person when he saw Travyon, a young black man, walking from the store. But Zimmerman still hasn’t been charged for murdering our son.
Trayvon was our hero. At the age 9, Trayvon pulled his father from a burning kitchen, saving his life. He loved sports and horseback riding. At only 17 he had a bright future ahead of him with dreams of attending college and becoming an aviation mechanic. Now that’s all gone.
When Zimmerman reported Trayvon to the police, they told him not to confront him. But he did anyway. All we know about what happened next is that our 17 year-old son, who was completely unarmed, was shot and killed.
It’s been nearly two weeks and the Sanford Police have refused to arrest George Zimmerman. In their public statements, they even go so far as to stand up for the killer - saying he’s “a college grad” who took a class in criminal justice.
Please join us in calling on Angela Corey, Florida’s 4th District State’s Attorney, to investigate my son’s murder and prosecute George Zimmerman for the shooting and killing of Trayvon Martin.”
THE SLUTS UNITE OATH
I believe that sex represents more than just the creation of children.
I believe it is an enjoyable, healthy and a profound part of the human experience.
I also believe that the responsible use of birth control is an essential component of a mature, civilized society.
And if these beliefs make me a slut in some people’s eyes, then so be it.

Feminist moment of the day
Today, for the first time in my life, a boy I had not previously met gave me his number and told me we should have coffee sometime. (Yes, I’m pathetic, let’s move on.)
I wanted to highlight that this event has happened at a point in my life after:
- I stopped wearing make-up
- I stopped shaving
- I gained back most of the weight I had recently lost
- I cut my hair short and tie it back most of the time
Patriarchy, gender roles, and our sexist culture: U MAD?
Jay Maas (member of Defeater and engineer for Bane, Verse, Shipwreck, etc.) was commissioned by Lego to create a Lego-centric hardcore song, for which he recruited Chris Wrenn (owner of Bridge Nine Records) to do vocals. Maas played all the music on the song that was penned by Toby Dutkiewicz (brother of Adam Dutkiewicz of Killswicth Engage) who also happens to work at Lego as a Art Director. Lego then created a stop-motion animation live video, set to the song and made entirely of their toy pieces.
I don’t know about you, but this just sealed the deal on what my nephews are getting for Christmas. Brand marketing doesn’t get much more clever than this.
Sometimes I wonder why I never got more involved in hardcore. Then I see things like this and am like oh yeah.
